MIE Carbon In development

Carbon emissions tracking from the plant data you already have.

MIE Carbon is carbon emissions tracking for manufacturing, built on the readings that keep your plant running. Those readings also describe its energy use and emissions. MIE Carbon turns them into a live view of emissions, reductions and the credits your plant could earn, and brings farmers who store carbon on their land onto the same platform. It is in development and not yet available; early clients will get it first.

For plant ownersSee the credits your plant is generating.

Emissions by plant, process and machine; reductions against your own baseline; estimated credits and where each one is in verification.

For farmersTurn farm practices into carbon records.

Records for trees, soil and low-emission practices, with small farms grouped so they can take part together.

For reportingRecords ready for government and ESG reporting.

Reports in the formats regulators and buyers ask for, with a full history behind every number.

Why now

India's carbon market is opening to industry and agriculture.

  • A national market. India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme is building one market for industry, with an offset route for voluntary projects.
  • Farmers can take part. Farmer groups can now pool small farms to earn carbon credits under approved methods.
  • The data is already flowing. MIE collects live machine data at client plants today, which is where carbon tracking starts.
  • Credits you can defend. Every credit is shown as estimated until an accredited verifier checks it and a registry issues it.
Scope 1, 2 and 3

What Scope 1 and 2 emissions reporting covers.

Emissions are usually split into three scopes. MIE Carbon starts with the two a plant can measure from its own machines.

  • Scope 1: direct emissions. From sources the plant owns or controls, such as fuel burned in its boilers, furnaces and generators.
  • Scope 2: purchased energy. Indirect emissions from the electricity, steam, heat or cooling the plant buys and uses, such as the power drawn by compressors and pumps.
  • Scope 3: the wider value chain. Everything else, from purchased materials to transport and the use of sold products. These sit outside the plant's own meters.
  • Where MIE Carbon starts. Energy use and fuel on each machine, which is Scope 1 and 2, then reductions against your own baseline.
How it will work

From a machine reading to a number you can report.

MIE Carbon uses the same path every MIE reading already takes: collected, checked, stored and watched. Carbon adds the last steps.

  1. Collect

Readings leave each machine over HTTPS, MQTT, OPC-UA or Modbus through your gateway, as they do in MIE today. No new sensors or hardware for MIE itself.

  2. Check

Only known machines and tags get in. Everything else is logged with a reason, so a bad reading never becomes a bad emissions figure.

  3. Work out emissions

Energy use and fuel become emissions by plant, process and machine, month by month.

  4. Compare with your baseline

Reductions are shown against your own baseline, so you can see which machines and processes are bringing emissions down.

  5. Estimate credits

Reductions become estimated credits. Each one shows where it is: measured, estimated, verified or issued. Only a registry issues credits, after an accredited verifier checks the project.

  6. Report

Records ready for government and ESG reporting, in the formats regulators and buyers ask for, with a full history behind every number.

The old way and the MIE way

From spreadsheets to records with a history.

Many plants still put together ESG reporting for manufacturers by hand, once a quarter or once a year. Here is what changes when the numbers come from the plant.

  • Where the numbers come from. Before: meter readings and fuel bills typed into a spreadsheet. With MIE Carbon: live readings from the machines themselves.
  • Working out emissions. Before: emission factors copied into formulas by hand, and checked by whoever built the sheet. With MIE Carbon: the same calculation every month, on every machine.
  • Seeing what changed. Before: one total for the year, with no way to tell which machine moved it. With MIE Carbon: emissions by plant, process and machine, against your own baseline.
  • Answering a buyer or a verifier. Before: a hunt through old files. With MIE Carbon: a full history behind every number, in one place for plants, farmers and verifiers.
Worked example

Carbon credits from plant data, step by step.

This is an illustrative example, not a customer result. Picture a plant with boilers and air compressors, already sending readings to MIE.

  1. The boilers

They burn fuel on site, so their emissions are Scope 1. Fuel use per boiler gives emissions per boiler, month by month.

  2. The compressors

They run on bought electricity, so their emissions are Scope 2. Energy use per compressor gives emissions per compressor.

  3. The baseline

An earlier period of the plant's own data sets the baseline. Each month is compared with it.

  4. The change

The maintenance team fixes a compressor that was running more than it needed to. Its energy use drops, and the reduction shows up against the baseline for that machine.

  5. The credit

MIE Carbon shows the reduction as an estimated credit. It stays estimated until an accredited verifier checks the project and a registry issues it.

Who it's for

One set of records for everyone who needs the numbers.

Plant and operations headsKnow which machines drive emissions.

Emissions next to the same machine data you already use to run the plant, so a fix and its effect sit side by side.

ESG and reporting teamsStop rebuilding the numbers each year.

Records that are ready when a regulator or a buyer asks, with the history to back them up.

Farmer groupsSmall farms, taking part together.

Simple records a farmer can share or submit, with small holdings grouped on the same platform as the plants.

What is live and what is coming

Where MIE Carbon sits on the roadmap.

MIE Carbon is not live yet. It builds on parts of MIE that are running at client plants today. If you would like to be part of the pilot, talk to us.

  • Live now. Data collection over HTTPS, MQTT, OPC-UA and Modbus, the rejected-data log, trends and a page per machine, and client summaries with PDF export. See MIE.
  • Next. Energy and emissions per machine and process, alongside predictive maintenance and custom dashboards built by asking.
  • Later. MIE Carbon itself: emissions, reductions and credit tracking; a farmer network with carbon records per farm; government and ESG reporting packs; and verifier and registry connections.
  • Your data stays yours. Encrypted in transit and at rest, isolated per client, and never used to train AI models. Read our security page.
  • Machine builders too. The same platform lets OEMs monitor the machines they have sold.
Questions

Common questions.

Is MIE Carbon available today?
Not yet. It is in development and builds on the plant data MIE already collects. Early clients will get it first.
What are Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions?
Scope 1 emissions come directly from sources a plant owns or controls, such as fuel burned in its boilers. Scope 2 emissions come from the electricity, steam, heat or cooling the plant buys. Scope 3 covers the rest of the value chain.
Which emissions does MIE cover first?
Energy use and fuel on each machine (Scope 1 and 2), then reductions against your baseline.
How will MIE Carbon track carbon emissions for manufacturing?
From the machine readings MIE already collects. Energy use and fuel become emissions by plant, process and machine, month by month, and reductions are shown against your own baseline.
Does MIE issue carbon credits?
No. Credits are issued by a registry after an accredited verifier checks the project. MIE measures, estimates and prepares the evidence.
Can MIE Carbon help with ESG reporting for manufacturers?
That is the aim. MIE Carbon is being built to prepare records for government and ESG reporting, in the formats regulators and buyers ask for, with a full history behind every number.
Do we need new sensors or hardware?
MIE itself needs no new sensors or hardware. It takes the readings you already have over HTTPS, MQTT, OPC-UA or Modbus, from your PLC, gateway, historian or edge device.
Can farmers take part?
Yes, that is part of the plan. MIE Carbon will keep records for trees, soil and low-emission practices, with small farms grouped so they can take part together.
